“I have learned so much in the two years I have been with CALL... and I would recommend CALL to anyone and everyone who want to improve their writing skills. Definitely a 10/10! You can't find better.”

What is Community?
Community is a group of people who share spaces, values, cultures, traditions and/or interests engaging with one another in a variety of ways. It is comprised of "messy" spaces, meaning they are not always curated to eliminate conflict, but instead develop shared strategies to move through and grow from it. This "messiness" also invites possibility, creativity, innovation and connection.
CALL works with and through community to create tangible benefits to our neighbors' quality of life. To learn more and experience community first-hand, click below and book a workshop with CALL!
What is Action?
In most cultures today, Literacy as a basic practice is a crucial set of skills. Even the very laws, policies and communications that govern our lives and day-to-day realities are written, and involve very particular literacy and critical thinking skills to both interpret and understand their impact. Literacy is everywhere, and impacts everything.
Literacy isn't just an ability. It is an action. We do literacy when we advocate for ourselves or others. We enact literacy when we write an email, pen a letter or protest injustice. CALL supports our community in the fight for change rooted in justice.
What is Language?
Language is the structured and systematic organization of sounds, gestures and associated positions/movements used to communicate abstract ideas. All languages that have the defining features of language- Reflexivity, displacement, arbitrariness, cultural transmission, productivity and duality- are equally valid, effective and valuable! Unfortunately, uninformed attitudes about language, even from those with the best intentions such as community advocates or teachers, can reify prejudice and oppression. To learn to empower with linguistic justice, click below and book a lecture/workshop with CALL!
What is Literacy?
You probably have heard Literacy described as the ability to read and write. But that definition of literacy leaves a lot to be desired. A lawyer, for instance, can easily read a very complicated legal argument that an MD couldn't, but that same lawyer couldn't read a medial chart .
All around you is a soup of literacies written, verbal, kinesthetic, visual and more. You are an expert in a wide range of literacies, while others are incomprehensible. There are tools and skills to learn a new literacy, however! To learn more, book a Lecture or Workshop with CALL!
